Well I’ve all but finished the pastel portrait of my Grandson Calan. It is 20 x 26 inches and was created using soft pastel. There are a few minor tweaks in the morning with fresh eyes but overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

The new cityscape sets are now available from Terry Ludwig pastels and they are definitely something I intend to add to my pastel collection. Calan Portrait – Day 3 – Pastel 20 x 16 inches.I never thought having a grandchild would be so inspiring. Every photo I view I see a new painting one way or another. I’ve decided to paint a rather large portrait of Calan as a gift for my daughter Megan. This is where I’m up to at the moment. About 12+ hours in. I say 12+ because when you get into the “zone” time just passes and it’s hard to keep track.
I’m working with soft pastels on an eggplant coloured Art Spectrum sanded sheet. The detail will be in the subject with a very loose background. I’ve chosen not to include all the background elements. More updates to come.
Orange Pekoe - Oil - 10 x 8 in.
I love orange anything… tea, candles, soaps, lotions… so it was a good choice for today’s painting. I also have a good collection of teapots. What Aussie doesn’t own a teapot? It’s a hand down from out British heritage I guess. A good cuppa fixes most anything that might be troubling you.

I thought it would be cool to call this painting pears 2-7 but that’s cheating…LOL.. So pear painting number 2 it is. Red Bartletts against the striking black and white striped wallpaper (not in my house). Oil, 12 x 6 on a 1.5 inch cradled panel so it does not need to be framed unless you want to. The sides are painted black.

I’ve painted a lot of pears throughout my life and so far they’ve never disappointed me. The good thing is we usually make some great dessert out of them after I’m done painting. Pears are so sensual and come in so many varieties there seems to be an endless supply of subject material.
Pear Number 1
For quite some time I’ve wanted to create a project based around my love of pears and today I kicked it off withthis 7 x 5 inch oil painting aptly titled Pear Number 1. I want to create 100 pear paintings in oil and pastel. Most will be on the smaller side as I still have other artwork to create. I’m not sure how long it will take but I will post them here and they will be for sale in my Etsy shop and you’ll be able to get prints also at Fine Art America.
My daughter Megan has never understood my fascination and is always groaning and saying “not another pear painting.” She even went so far as to offer up some alternative projects such as totally tomatoes, all about apples, and champion cherries! I think she might be onto something so I’ll keep those in mind too.
24 Carrots - original oil painting
No joke really… this painting is just waiting to be varnished and will be ready to go. These luscious carrots were purchased at the local farmers market and tasted as good as they looked. This original oil painting is on a 10 x 8 linen panel. It will be listed for sale in my Etsy shop. I will also get a much better photograph as soon as I learn how to take a pic of an oil painting without it looking all shiny!
